General overview
Madagascar has two main seasons: dry (April to November) and wet (December to March). But this is a simplification: the east coast can rain year-round, while the south is arid.
April to May: our favorite
Green landscapes, few tourists, mild temperatures. Ideal for the West (Tsingy) and East.
June to August: peak season
Dry and cool. Perfect for humpback whales at Sainte-Marie, Tsingy hikes and lemur watching. Book well in advance.
September to November: optimal
Baby lemurs, blooming baobabs, whale sharks in Nosy Be (October-December). Our recommendation for a first trip.
December to March: to avoid
Cyclonic season on the east coast, muddy tracks in the West (Bemaraha inaccessible). Only the highlands remain visitable.
