Humpback whale off Sainte-Marie

Sainte-Marie, the whale island

Long and narrow, Sainte-Marie Island (Nosy Boraha) is famous for the annual humpback whale migration, its pirates' cemetery and Île aux Nattes, its white-sand satellite.

Every year, over 8,000 humpback whales migrate up from Antarctica to give birth and mate safely in the Sainte-Marie channel.
